All The April 2015 Nintendo Direct News In One Place

by Andrew Reiner on Apr 01, 2015 at 03:08 PM

Nintendo fans, start getting comfortable with the idea of most Nintendo-published games having Amiibo support. During today's 48-minute Nintendo Direct conference, most of the big games shown gained Amiibo support. Yes, Amiibo's are optional, but to see everything a game has to offer, you'll need to purchase the Amiibos to unlock new options, modes, and gameplay functionality.

New Amiibo action figure waves were announced for Super Smash Bros, Splatoon, and Yoshi's Woolly World. Nintendo also unveiled a game called Amiibo Tap: Nintendo's Greatest Bits, a new Wii U title that takes Amiibo owners on a journey into popular NES and Super Nintendo titles. And if that isn't enough to keep track of, Nintendo rounded out the Amiibo news with an unexpected twist: Amiibos won't just be action figures; they'll also be trading cards starting this fall. In the game Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer, players scan trading cards into an NFC reader/writer peripheral (releasing at the same time as the game) to bring new items and characters to life in the game.

Although Zelda Wii U was recently delayed, Nintendo had plenty of news to share for its console, including announcements that Fatal Frame and the Shin Megami Tensei / Fire Emblem crossover project are coming to the United States. As for the 3DS, players can look forward to a wide variety of releases, including Attack on Titan: Humanity in Chains, Pokemon Rumble World, and a new Fire Emblem project.
