Naughty Dog explains why it had to cancel its long-anticipated multiplayer title

The company previously planned to release 12 live service games by March 2026 after acquiring Destiny 2 maker Bungie last year to spearhead its games-as-a-service efforts.

The majority of those laid off were in Naughty Dog's quality assurance testing department.

The game was first announced as a mode for The Last of Us Part II before transitioning to a standalone project this time last year.
