Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls
When it comes to tag fighters, Marvel’s heroes and villains have typically settled for sparring against Capcom’s video game icons. Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls bucks this trend as a wholly comic book-focused face-off developed by acclaimed fighting developer Arc System Works (Dragon Ball FighterZ, Guilty Gear). So far, it’s shaping up to be the most eyebrow-raising adaptation of the comic universe on the horizon.
While most tag fighters feature either 2v2 or 3v3 bouts, Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls raises the stakes with its staggering 4v4 match-ups. That means up to eight fighters slug it out at once. As of writing, the confirmed roster so far consists of Spider-Man, Captain America, Iron Man, Ms. Marvel, Doctor Doom, Storm, Star-Lord, and Ghost Rider (Robbie Reyes). Arc states the roster will feature a mix of iconic faces and characters who have never appeared in a fighting game. The roster looks fantastic rendered in Arc’s signature cel-shaded style, and their designs sport distinctly Japanese sensibilities, such as Iron Man’s mecha-inspired armor.
