Lego Super Mario Adds Real-World Platforming To The Construction Toy

by Jeff Cork on Mar 12, 2020 at 01:25 AM

Nintendo and Lego announced some kind of partnership a few days ago, and a newly revealed video sheds some light on just what we can expect from Lego Super Mario. Suffice it to say, it's a little more ambitious than minifigs.

As you can see in the teaser video, the centerpiece of the collaboration is a large Mario build. Players can switch it on, and his eyes and other elements will come to life through animations that appear on several screens. Players can then have the figure interact with a variety of Mario-inspired playsets to earn virtual coins (complete with sound effects), avoid hazards, and perform other actions. Judging from the clip, it looks to have board-game-like elements.

The sets are due out this year, but details such as pricing and exact release dates are still unannounced.
