The announcement of a team-based multiplayer shooter set in the Resident Evil universe caught many off-guard last year. To this point, Capcom has only shown off its One Life Match mode, where players go in together and try to be the last with a surviving member. Putting a uniquely Resident Evil spin on the genre, players have to not only worry about opposing human players, but also A.I. zombies that are scattered throughout the maps. Today, Capcom announced a new mode called Multi-Mission mode as a new addition to the slow-growing Umbrella Corps mode suite.

The mode cycles players through multi-round matches featuring randomized rulesets. The mode is designed to allow players to jump to different experiences without having to leave their teams and enter matchmaking. Multi-Mission mode features eight different rulesets that are cycled through at random.

Target Hunter marks one player on each team for the other team to kill. Killing the targeted player is the only way to score a point in Target Hunter mode. Respawn match sounds just like your standard team deathmatch mode with an on-screen map and respawn points. Domination tasks the two teams with securing designated data transmission points. DNA Hunter's objective is to kill A.I. zombies to collect their DNA samples. SP DNA Hunter is the same thing as DNA Hunter, but it features tougher mutated zombies that require teamwork to take down.

Collector mode pits players against each other in a race to collect all five briefcases in the map, while Protector gives players the mission of finding a single briefcase and holding it for as long as possible while enemies try to kill the holder and take the briefcase for themselves. The final ruleset, Collar War, sounds like Call of Duty's Kill Confirmed, as killed players drop their collars and you must pick them up in order to score points. If your ally goes down in Collar War, you can pick up his or her collar to prevent the enemy from scoring.

You can see the eight variants of Multi-Mission mode in action briefly in the action-packed gameplay trailer below.

Umbrella Corps is set to hit PlayStation 4 and PC in May. The game will retail for $29.99.
