Ubisoft has announced its plans to continue the Toy Soldiers franchise. The publisher had previously announced in March that it had acquired the rights to Toy Soldiers from Microsoft. Developer Signal Studios, who also created the first two Toy Soldiers titles, seeks to propel the tower defense/action hybrid title into the next generation.

In Toy Soldiers: War Chest, you will be placing towers, commanding squads of units, and taking control of individual units for intense third-person combat. See the announcement trailer below for good taste of gameplay.

Two armies have so far been announced for Toy Soldiers: War Chest. You can take control of Starbright's cute-but-sinister army of cuddly bears, ponies, and pixies or step into the boots of Kaiser, leader of a disciplined team of German World War I soldiers.

In addition to these two teams, there will be two more armies set to be announced before launch. Each of the armies will feature customizable weapons and upgrades.

Toy Soldiers: War Chest is scheduled to be released early next year on the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC. The game will be shown at Gamescom this week as well so keep a close eye on our website to see our impressions soon.

You may have already played the second title in the series, Toy Soldiers: Cold War, as it was one of Xbox Live's free games with Gold in February. Be sure to read our review of the original Toy Soldiers as well.
