Star Citizen’s single-player campaign Squadron 42 is brimming with high-profile names in its ensemble cast. Cloud Imperium Games shows Andy Serkis strapped to complicated motion-capture rigs in this behind-the-scenes video.

Serkis is best known for his mo-cap work as Gollum in The Lord of the Rings franchise and Caesar in the most recent Planet of the Apes films. He plays the part of Thul'Óqquray, the main antagonist of Squadron 42, complete with a fictional language spoken by the Vanduul.

The actor's long, weightless strides simulate a low gravity environment with help from the rigging team behind the movie Gravity. Serkis also takes a moment to watch his avatar drink tea as he’s captured in real-time, which probably won’t be a pivotal plot point in Squadron 42.

Serkis will be joining a star-studded cast including Gary Oldman (The Dark Knight Trilogy, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes), Mark Hamill (Star Wars, Batman: Arkham), Gillian Anderson (X-Files, The Fall), and John Rhys-Davies (Lord of the Rings, Indiana Jones). Star Citizen’s Squadron 42 is expected to release for PC this year.
