Sega today revealed a new gameplay mechanic for Sonic Forces, Sonic Team's upcoming core entry in the franchise. The game, which is scheduled to release later this year, is adding a tag mechanic for select stages.

Tag stages feature Modern Sonic and the custom character that's introduced in Sonic Forces combining their powers to defeat enemies and reach the stage goal. Modern Sonic's speed and homing attack are at your disposal, as well as the custom hero's Wispon abilities (customizable powers that range from a flamethrower to a powerful hammer) and grappling hook.

You can catch a brief look at the tag gameplay below.

In addition, Sega released an appropriately electronic remix for Metal Sonic that will appear in Sonic Forces. You can give that a listen right here as well.

Sonic Forces releases on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC later this year. Sonic Mania, a nostalgia-fueled love letter to the series' classic Genesis entries, released earlier this month. You can read our review on that game here.
