Shoot Many Robots plays a bit like a cross between Castle Crashers and Borderlands. Naturally we had a good time with it.

Ubisoft recently announced that they’d be publishing this clever little downloadable title, but this is the first time we’ve had the chance to get our hands on the game in a while. Thankfully, we’re happy with how the game has been coming along.

Shoot Many Robots can be played up to 4-player online and 2-player on a single system. This 2D sidescrolling shooter lets you equip a variety of loot to your character as you level up. We played around with clothing that gave us boost to our weapon stats, jetpacks that let us hover slightly after a jump, and rodeo belts that let us slide across the level helping us corral enemies. Most of the items and weapons are fairly humorous and silly. One cat carrying case fired out tiny nukes-like bombs.

In addition to a story mode that is broken up into several difficulty modes that should take players dozens of hours to complete, Demiurge Studios has worked in a Survival mode that functions like a 2D horde mode. Up to four players are stuck in one 2D map as waves of enemies come flooding in from the top.

We’re more eager than ever for Shoot Many Robot’s 2012 release date. For more on the game, check out the screen and video below.
