The Just Cause franchise is known for its mayhem, and now developer Avalanche Studios is trying to create a different kind of craziness. The developer has announced Renegade Ops – a downloadable title to be published by Sega.

The game (due out this fall on XBLA, PSN, and PC) is a vehicle shooter with a top-down camera that also features a single-player campaign, two-player offline splitscreen, and online play for up to four players. You are part of a mobile anti-terrorism unit sent in to take down a guy named Inferno. Naturally, the game will contain different vehicles with varying weapons and capabilities that can be upgraded along the way.

"A lot of inspiration came from looking at Shadow Complex and what they did to the Super Metroid mechanics," said senior producer Andreas Thorsén to Eurogamer. "We wanted to do something similar, using old school mechanics created with the looks of today."

Avalanche says that a trailer for the game will be coming soon, so check back for more.
