Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare was a great first entry in the series, but it was lacking in the single-player category. This time out, PopCap is giving the solo modes a boost.

Solo Play now lets you form a team of four characters, with the other three controlled by the AI. You’ll be able to hot-swap among them with the D-pad, so if you need to take advantage of a particular plant’s abilities, you won’t need to rely on a computer-controlled ally.

You’ll be able to earn XP for all four characters during the match, as any kills and other experience-granting actions are awarded to whichever plant you’re controlling. You’ll also earn coins during solo play for more sticker packs that give you the chance to unlock more character variations.

There are also new crazy settings that reduce the gravity, cause characters to explode, super speed, and more. These are available in the solo variation of the 24-player Gardens & Graveyards mode.

Plants vs. Zombies Garden Warfare 2 is due out in February 2016. For more, check out our hands-on preview from New York Comic Con.
