Opinion: Metro Last Light
Just a reminder before I get into details, this post is solely my opinion and is not a general review of the game's quality or anything like that. It's just how I saw the game based (probably) on my own biases.
When Metro came in the mail, I was pretty stoked. I had been waiting a long time for this game. I put it in right away and began playing. Now I dunno if it's due to recent events and I haven't felt like gaming, or if it's some other reason, but I could not find Metro Last Light very tantalizing. I had the hardest time staying focused on the game.
The game itself in terms of quality was amazing. The graphics and environment design were very detailed and high quality and I felt like they did a great job creating the world in Metro. The story was also getting pretty interesting, describing that I (the main character) could communicate with the Dark Ones and maybe there was a way to communicate with them and make peace. The story's great and the graphics are neat, so what's the problem?
I honestly don't know what the problem is. I have been thinking about it the past couple days why I can't get into Metro Last Light. I have been playing a lot of Silent Hill 2 lately and I pondered the possibility that maybe I had been in the mood for a scary game. Something truly scary. Maybe Metro wasn't scary enough to hold my attention? Maybe I was craving a horror game and Metro didn't do it for me?
One thing I did notice about the game, which didn't bother me in the first one, is that there's a lot of waiting. Kind of reminds me of the beginning of Skyrim where you have to wait for the guy to give his speech before the dragon swoops in and brings about hell. Just waiting and looking around. In Metro, there's A LOT of this. I know it's about including you in the part of the scene and distributing the story is a different way than watching a cut scene, but I found myself constantly saying, "Okay okay I get it, let's get a move on already." Maybe it just lost me this time.
Metro Last Light seems like a great game with a lot of time put into it and I'm sure it is incredibly long. I haven't been able to play games in the last few days so this could be a lull guys. I'm sure I'll be back to normal by the time E3 rolls around!
