What Recession?! (comic sells for a record cool million)
Hello Game Informer faithful! You've finally made it to the end of the rainbow (my new blog), and so you have my sincerest congratulations! I know it was a long, arduous road to get here, likely through a lot of questionable material (primary from Mark Burger- whom I work with down on the 3rd floor, go read his stuff you'll see what I mean - EDIT: nevermind he's lame and deleted his stuff. Tell him to start again!) but perhaps you'll find it worth your time . At least I'll do my best to ensure you find it worth your time. If you don't, please let me know in the comment section - I'll put two minutes of my time in an envelope and mail them back to you.
Basically I've decided to create this blog in order to post up things I think are cool and deserve a mention. Perhaps I can convice a few of you to agree with me. (Plus everyone else is doing a blog - and I've jumped off bridges for less!). In all likelihood my posts won't all be game related - and they won't necessarily be made in a timely fashion but heckle me for a post often enough and I'll do my best to get something up. Plus it'll help build my self-esteem which my mom says is good for me!
This first post just goes to show you that while you can work hard, and be successful, chances are there's someone more successful then you. And while the recession may be affecting people in a variety of adverse ways (I've managed to line my refrigerator box in phone books to keep out the cold, but bricks of Ramen are far better once cooked I've been told...) others still have a bit of spare coin available and sometimes they purchase something pretty cool.
Case in point - someone who can afford a million dollars for a comic book:
"They said it couldn’t be done. They said that no comic book—no matter how rare—would ever sell for $1,000,000. This week, they were proven wrong. And in the midst of a recession, no less!
That’s because ComicConnect.com, one of the industry’s leading online auction/consignment sites, just sold an extremely rare, top-condition copy of the world’s most coveted comic book for exactly $1,000,000. That figure is more than three times higher than the prior record-holder, also set by ComicConnect.com.
“It’s the single most important event in comic book history,” adds ComicConnect.com co-owner and COO, Vincent Zurzolo."
Although the individual who made the purchase wasn't identified, I'd like to think they spend their days sleeping on large piles of money somewhere in the Carribean and use this comic primarily as fancy coaster for their drinks. Jeff Cork and his fancy, shiny blog background will finally have someone to relate to!
