Lovecraftian Expansion Coming For Magicka

by Adam Biessener on Oct 27, 2011 at 05:30 AM

Paradox announced this morning that an expansion for its surprise downloadable hit title is on the way. Magicka: The Stars are Left brings an all-new adventure based on the Cthulhu mythos to Arrowhead Studios' fast-paced cooperative spell-slinging action game.

The Stars are Left contains the aforementioned story adventure as well as two each of new challenge maps, robes, and bosses. Also included: "Considerably more than two new items and Magicks," along with seven badly needed new enemy types and a Minecraft spoof.

In a cool move promoting the game's co-op focus, The Stars are Left only requires that the host of the game own the expansion. You can join in and play all the new content with only the base game installed, so long as the player you're connecting to has the add-on.

Magicka is an absolutely wonderful and unique isometric action game when you're playing with friends, and some of the misgivings I had with taking on the original experience solo have been patched away since launch. I'm definitely looking forward to this expansion, scheduled currently to launch this winter at an unannounced price point.
