A new offroad racing game from 2XL Games is coming to the PSN and XBLA.
Jeremy McGrath's Offroad is coming out this Tuesday and promises to give players the chance to race as one of offroading's greatest champions. In the career mode, you follow McGrath as he seeks to attain the Pro2 Championship within the Lucas Oil Off Road Series. The Game is built off of 2XL Game's own XLR8 engine and will run at a silky smooth 60 frames per second on the 1080p resolution. It also offers 8-player online multiplayer so you can log on with your friends and compete for bragging rights and a spot at the top of the leaderboards.
In the career mode, you start out with a buggy-style vehicle, and as you progress through the 25 races you unlock different classes of vehicles including Rally Cars, Rally Trucks, and Pro Lite Trucks. The game also has a unique leveling up system in which you earn experience, regardless of your standing, for maneuvers, such as completing a jump or passing an opponent. This experience is converted into points that can be used to upgrade your rig in any of four areas: top speed, handling, brakes, and acceleration. The result is a racing experience in which if you do not do well in a particular race, you will more than likely be able to improve your buggy and have a better shot at the race the next time you try.
From playing the game, it is clear that Jeremy McGrath's Offroad is much more than a simple arcade racer. Between the upgrade system and the voiceover tips, direct from Jeremy McGrath, this game is easy enough for anybody to enjoy. The dynamic environments seek to add a more visceral feeling to the race, forcing players to adapt to destructible fencing, sudden rock slides, or falling trees. The only problem with this is that without the inclusion of a rumble feature, a lot of the impact of these events is lost. However, the game is still pre-release and this may be included in the final version.
Jeremy McGrath's Offroad is very clearly more than your average offroad racer. It seeks to give the experience of a triple-A title at a $10 downloadable price tag. Given all of the features its easy to see why fans of the genre will be so excited for this game.
