Dragon Island
Developer Greyhound Games has not shied away from revealing the source of inspiration for its upcoming iOS game, Monster Island. Greyhound's founder Tom Delorenzi posted a Dragon Island video on YouTube with the title "classic RPG + Pokemon + iPhone = Win." The game's Facebook page also describes it as "Pokemon Got Evil." While I'm sure Greyhound will avoid using "gotta catch them all," it has gone well out of its way to turn the heads of Pokemon fans.
After checking out the game (which you can do in the video below), the core concept of collecting monsters is the backbone of this experience. Captured monsters are kept in cards rather than the iconic Pokeballs. Monsters that are thrown into battle will eventually evolve into more powerful forms. Additionally, specific monster types can meld with other monsters to create unique hybrids.
A big focus of this experience is questing and exploring a sprawling landscape to find hidden dungeons, towers, and locations where rare monsters may be hiding. The game even offers an endless dungeon for experienced hunters.
Greyhound Games and publisher ZigZaGames hope to have Monster Island out for iPhone, iTouch, and iPad sometime in March.
