Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor 2: Record Breaker
The Devil Survivor branch of the Shin Megami Tensei series is a careful blend of a variety of different gameplay styles. It borrows from strategy RPGs and traditional turn-based RPGs to create something wholly unique.
In the gameplay video below, you’ll combat begin with traditional strategy deployment. You’ll pick your skills and demon allies, place your party members, and move on a grid.
Once you get close to an enemy though, the perspective changes, and the party member in combat has access to their skills via a menu. The view is first-person, and the combat turn-based as in a number of other Shin Megami Tensei titles.
Also in series tradition, using elemental attacks to exploit weaknesses will award you bonus turns. Careful management of MP can leave you tearing through the enemy forces before they even get a hit off.
Devil Survivor 2 is out next week on May 5 for Nintendo 3DS. Pre-orders include a game soundtrack and clear decals featuring the characters and game logo.
