In its weekly community update, Bungie has detailed the long-promised but as yet unexplained weapon foundries, offering a wealth of detail about why foundries matter, what makes weapons distinct, and why players should be excited about the options.

Weapon foundries are manufacturers that produce multiple guns, but all of them share certain visual and functional characteristics.

Hakke guns focus on “function over flare, ” with solid stats across the board in any given weapon. Talent grids have simplified, useable scopes, front-loaded perk nodes, and the stat upgrades are saved until the last column. In an interesting twist, Hakke pulse rifles shoot four bursts instead of three.

Omolon guns sound particularly unusual, with a focus on energy weapons and a strange liquid ammo supply. Omolon weapons tend to have more varied behavioral perks, but less stat-boosting options. Some Omolon weapons have perks that interact directly with a guardian’s abilities or status.

Suros weapons should look familiar to anyone who has acquired the popular auto rifle, Suros Regime. New Suros weapon foundry weapons focus on customization to the occasion, allowing guardians to adjust perks for dramatically different situations.

Beyond discussion of weapon foundries, the update also added some other interesting notes about other weapons coming in The Taken King, suggesting that factions, classes, new quests, and the gunsmith might all be avenues to new weaponry.
