Daydreamer: Awakened Edition is a freaky-looking platformer that pays homage to classic games from the 8- and 16-bit era, while drawing artistic inspiration from doodles, street art, and the creepy works of artist H.R. Giger. Roland Womack, the game's programmer, designer, and artist, walks us through some of the game's other inspirations while showing off a nice slice of its creepy worlds.

Womack says he wanted the game to look like a series of handcrafted sets instead of the tile-based designs that are typically seen in platforming games. As you can see in the video below, he's created a visually striking – and unsettling – world, populated with plenty of insectoid creeps.

Daydreamer: Awakened Edition will be available to download on PlayStation 4 on May 31, with the Xbox One version of the game following on June 3. It's priced at $9.99 on both platforms.
