Usually nobody is going to call you smart or skilled if you crash your car into traffic, but Danger Zone – the upcoming title from the makers of Burnout and its Crash mode – tries to make doing this into its own art form.

I recently got my hands on a preview build of the title, and while the side of me that enjoys blowing stuff up is delighted, figuring out how to do it well is the title's real allure.

Each level spawns in traffic from various directions, and timing your impacts for maximum effect while nabbing the valuable bonus coins and extra smashbreakers is a skill you never knew existed.

Using aftertouch when detonating a smashbreaker (earned for causing a certain number of crashes) propels you around the level, and getting the coins in order (bronze, silver, and gold) gets you a Grand Slam bonus that can push you up the leaderboard.

Oftentimes success is about knowing when to lay off the gas to get through an intersection (while still causing accidents) in order to get to an even better part of the level or by saving up a smashbreaker for the right moment.

Check out the video below to see some engineered destruction.

Danger Zone, developed by Three Fields Entertainment, is out digitally on May 30 for PlayStation 4 and PC.
