Battleborn
While Battleborn’s competitive modes might take a page out of the MOBA playbook, the cooperative story mode is completely different. At E3, Gearbox and 2K showed off one mission, taking place on a frozen hellscape.
The five-person team of Thorn, Oscar Mike, Phoebe, Orendi, and Caldarius function more like a Borderlands squad than a League of Legends team. In the over 20 minutes of footage below, you’ll see how the upgrade system works as the team progresses through the mission.
While the cooperative combat borrows from Gearbox’s work on Borderlands, the unique play styles of the 25 heroes differentiates it from that game (and other class-based shooters). The addition of melee combat as a primary means of dealing damage for some heroes also introduces something fresh for Gearbox.
