We previously wrote about how players can possess and control enemies in Abyss Odyssey. Today Atlus released a trailer titled Know Your Enemy that goes through the moveset and combos for a foe known as Judith.

Abyss Odyssey is an action platformer that treats combat as a key element, much like a fighting game. In a blog post accompanying the trailer, written by co-lead designer Carlos Bordeu, Bordeu talks about how the mechanics will be more comparable to the Super Smash Bros. franchise, rather than games like Street Fighter. Bordeu also notes that repeating the same attack can’t be used to juggle an opponent indefinitely.

“This cannot be accomplished because of a simple rule of the game's combo system: Every time you repeat a same attack within a combo, the attack carries a decreased upwards momentum,” Bordeu said. “In other words: The more you repeat an attack in your combo, the less it pushes upwards, making it more and more difficult to continue the combo. We feel this was an excellent way of balancing juggles and making a system that forces people to use a diversity of attacks creatively in order to get the most impressive combos.”

The trailer is set in the practice room for Abyss Odyssey, which lets you hone your skills against a dummy with any character you’ve unlocked. The blog post also reveals that more videos showing off different characters will be released as the game nears completion.

Abyss Odyssey being developed by ACE Team and is set to release sometime in 2014 on PC through Steam, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360.
