Futter's Gaming Goals - Week of January 12, 2015

by Mike Futter on Jan 12, 2015 at 03:08 AM

Week one of my gaming goals experiment went extremely well. It was great to have a task list and stay on track.

One thing I noticed is that last week’s list was exceedingly ambitious. I just barely managed to fit everything in, and this week is likely to be a bit busier for me at home (meaning less game time).

While I successfully executed on my plans to run the Vault of Glass on Hard and Crota’s End, both were extremely disappointing. The rewards were mediocre, making it tough to feel good about the time investment.

Getting upgrade materials (and nothing else) from a four hour raid is demoralizing, and it exposes one of Destiny’s greatest shortcomings. The loot drops aren’t balanced and players can get absolutely shafted, while their friends get duplicates of great weapons.

Despite that, I’ve shaken off my frustration and will give the Vault one more try this week. Here’s hoping that RNGesus is a bit kinder this time out.

Destiny

- Level first alt character (Titan) to 15 [COMPLETE]

- Run Nightfall Strike [COMPLETE]

- Run Weekly Strike [COMPLETE]

- Level Thorn exotic hand cannon to “Mark of the Devourer" ability [COMPLETE]

- Run Crota’s End Raid [COMPLETE]

- Run Vault of Glass Raid on Hard [COMPLETE]

Dragon Age: Inquisition

- Play at least two more hours (It is our Game of the Year, after all.) [INCOMPLETE]

Grand Theft Auto V

- Play some of the single player (two hours) instead of just messing around in GTA Online [INCOMPLETE]

Honeycomb Hotel

- Complete at least five puzzles [COMPLETE]

In addition to gaming, I’m planning on catching up with more DVR programs. I’ve watched two of three episodes of Syfy’s Ascension, which has a much more interesting premise than the channel let on in promo.

I’m also still catching up with Haven, which now has twice the Emily Rose. I love that show, and very much enjoyed Stephen King’s The Colorado Kid, which I read poolside on vacation.

I’ll update this throughout the week as I check these items off the list. If you’ve decided to start tracking your own gaming goals, feel free to share your targets in the comments. If you want to link to your blog, I recommend using Bit.ly so the URL doesn’t get chopped off. I’ll read every one.

Happy gaming!

One quick note. You may have noticed that I shifted the start date of my week from Sunday to Monday. This is to prevent my weekend from being split across goal weeks (and because I publish these on Monday).
