Facebook Contest Finds Winner(s), Funny Answers

by Andy McNamara on Oct 19, 2010 at 06:55 AM

If you don't follow Game Informer on Facebook, then you missed a chance last week to win a free game that I put up for the taking with the one simple request: Who is your favorite game character of all time and why?

The answers were great. I had a blast reading them all here, but for the sake of ease of use, I pulled a couple winners (It's my contest. I can do what I want!) and also some of my favorites, and posted them unedited below. There were references to some of my personal favorite characters, too, including Milon from Milon's Secret Castle, Garrett from Thief, and Laverne from Day of the Tentacle.

Loved the responses. Thanks all for playing, and I'll try to put up a question every week with some kind of exciting prize. So if you don't follow us on Facebook...you should!!!

The Winner (s):

Kofi Jamal Simmons = Ryu from Street Fighter. Classic, simple, and yet awesome design. His skill sets are so balance but still have the impact it needs to compete with anyone. He lives for the fight, always moving to the next challenge. That's what life should be about, moving to the next challenge and challengers.

Patrick William Rone = Mario. Only in the mushroom kingdom can a fat Italian plumber shoot hoops better than MJ, touch a feather and learn to fly with a cape tied around his neck, befriend and RIDE a dinosaur (even while punching him in the back of the head), touch a leaf and turn into a raccoon, grow 5 feet by eating mushrooms, go into outer space with no oxygen mask, and then date a princess. Case Closed.

**Kofi and Patrick watch for a friend invite coming from me, so we can arrange which game you want  - or you can contact me via my email andy@gameinformer.com! You can pick between Bioshock 2 (Xbox 360), FIFA Soccer (PS3 or Xbox 360), Civ V (PC), Mass Effect 2 (Xbox 360), or if you don't like any of those, I'll find you something.

The Others:

Charles Edward Martin = Sonic the Hedgehog because he's been with me for half my life. I've played every game he's been in (both good and bad) because I'm loyal to him because he's been so loyal to me. It started with the first game, then comic, then animated series, and now Sonic 4. I still have the plush that I slept with when I was a child. I love Sonic (as cliched as it sounds), he's my friend.

Devon "Peanutbutterjellytime" Shimin = Megaman-the blue bomber has been around for over twenty years. Unlike most game heros who fight the same villans over and over(link-ganon, mario-king koopa) megaman must overcome diversity everytime because of the eight new robot masters. Here is a little guy who has set the bar for side scrolling adventures and withstood the test of time and holds a very special place in alot of hearts. Thats why he will always be my favorite game guy of all time!

Josean Suris Rosselli = Garrett, from the Thief series. Because stealing from the rich is so much fun. He is confident, yet always aware of his limitations.

Samuel Lee Smith = Nathan Drake from the Uncharted Series. Why? Because so much of my love of video games come from the old 8-bit old weird adventure games. Nathan Drake is the personification of everything I wished those games could have been when I was little. He is the character I wish someone would throw into one of those awful Indiana Jones games to give Indy some much needed life. Action, adventure, beautiful women, Nazis, and some of the best cinematic game play I have seen in my lifetime. Of course he is my first choice.

Christopher Maloney = Commander John Shepard, end of story. He is the the savior of the citadel, and brought mankind to the forefront of the alien races. The man knows what to do in any situation, and never looses his cool. He's always packing heat and comes with a kung fu grip. He never says die, not even against the vacuum of space. And best of all he's you or me, he is the Paragon hero, Rebel antihero, or anywhere in between. He's what ever you want him to be. I ask you simply, what more could you ask for?

Dominic Ricardo Sinclaire = The Boss from MGS3, in an industry which doesn't really offer a great female perspective generally, we're given one of the greatest female characters who appeals to both genders and is for lack of a better term, *** ^_^

Jon Eivins = It's way too hard to chose an all time favorite. So, i'll chose my current favorite. The nameless miner from Minecraft. He lives a solitary life. His only means of entertainment is mining deep into the planet. Plus he is in constant danger at night. I think I might be too addicted to this game....

Jason Wojnar = Solid Snake. It's amazing to see how he changes throughout the Metal Gear series. He always keeps his cool, and keeps his emotions to himself on occasion , but he always seems human. I also love how David Hayter portrays him. Kojima has done such a good job with all his characters in the Metal Gear franchise, but I feel like Solid Snake is his best. Hell, I feel so connected to him that I could not keep my eyes dry during most of Metal Gear Solid 4.

Krystal Leger = Samus Aran from the Metroid games because she shows girls can be just as *** as guys ;)
