Game Informer Show 83: Rage, Dark Souls, NBA 2K12

by Matt Helgeson on Oct 06, 2011 at 01:06 PM

It's a big week for new releases, including Rage, the much-anticipated shooter from Doom and Quake creators id Software. However, there's two other games that shine as well, From Software's unique (and challenging) action/RPG Dark Souls and NBA 2K12, which might be the greatest sports game ever made.Rage has gotten a lot of press both good and bad, but the GI crew -- reviewer Andy Reiner, Joe Juba, Bryan Vore, and Dan Rykcert -- are largely positive about the game, citing its gripping gunplay and jaw-dropping visuals. However, there are some key flaws that hold it back from legendary status. Listen in for a long discussion about a very interesting game. Next up is Dark Souls, the spiritual successor to Demon's Souls. It's a game unlike any other, with a grinding difficulty curve, unique multiplayer and "connected" single-player functionality, and a vibe unlike any other in games. It might not be the biggest franchise, but it's one that sparks passionate responses from Phil Kollar, Andy Reiner, and Jeff Marchiafava. Finally, GI's resident jock Matt Bertz stops by to give us the scoop on NBA 2K12, which mines the rich legacy of basketball history to create a simply amazing experience.
