Former Square Enix composer Nobuo Uematsu is returning to help work on the Final Fantasy remake, according to producer Yoshinori Kitase.
In an interview in a pamphlet for an event celebrating the release of 2018's BRA★BRA Final Fantasy Brass de Bravo album, an interview with Final Fantasy VII Remake producer Yoshinori Kitase was asked about the music for Square Enix's biggest current project. His answer was translated courtesy of Siliconera:
“I’ve worked on numerous titles with Uematsu-san," Kitase said, "and while I’m currently working on the production of Final Fantasy VII Remake, it’s actually been since Final Fantasy X that I directly worked with Uematsu-san. So when I first went to ask Uematsu-san to come work on the music for the remake, I thought he would give me the cold shoulder since he had already left Square Enix and found success.”
It makes sense Uematsu would return to Final Fantasy VII, with many of his compositions being integral to people's memories of the original. Uematsu left Square in 2004, but has lent some tracks to nearly every Final Fantasy game since.
Final Fantasy VII Remake has not been seen since developer CyberConnect2 was fired from the project and Square Enix brought it internally. Square Enix's digital showcase for E3 will air on Monday June 11 at 10:00 AM PDT on various streaming services.
