In April, Pokemon Go was all about sheep. In May, it is all about everyone's favorite flaming tail lizard.

While choosing Charmander in Red/Blue was essentially hard mode considering the first two gyms were Rock and Water, those that stuck it out got Charizard in the end. Starting May 19, you can relive that feeling with increased Charmander spawns, finally letting people easily attain Charizards of their own.

As with most Pokemon Go special events, evolutions proffer special skills onto certain Pokemon. In this case, Charmeleons that become Charizards will get an exclusive move. In addition, shiny Pokemon are more likely during events, so getting a shiny Charizard is not unlikely.

Event times vary by region, so consult this chart provided by Niantic to find out when you can start catching on May 19.
