Seven years later, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim's impact still ripples through the industy. With more platforms to play on and a host of worthy accolades, Bethesda's masterpiece is one of the the most accessible and compelling RPGs in video game history. It seems as if most gamers have at least touched on it to some extent at this point, but if you haven't experienced Skyrim for yourself, you'll have a chance to live out the legend of the Dovahkiin this coming weekend. From April 12 to 16 the Special Edition will be free.

Xbox Live Gold subscribers and Steam users can download the game and its DLC content during this weekend, and play to their heart's content. All of your achievements and progress will be saved if you decide to buy the game over this weekend, which will be available until April 23 on both platforms for $19.99. Creation Club content will also be discounted by 50 percent.

You can read Javy Gwaltney's review to see how the game stands up after all these years on the Switch. We also compared the Special Edition graphical updates with the original game if you're curious to see the differences a console generation can make.
