Call of Duty: WWII Overhauls Divisions And Core Multiplayer Components

With the second DLC pack The War Machine on its way for Call of Duty: WWII, Sledgehammer Games has another round of surprises in store on April 10 that shakes the multiplayer mode's very foundations.

Smaller updates were in the pipeline with the addition of Paint Shop and a new mode for Ranked Play, but in a community update relayed on April 6, principal multiplayer designer Greg Reisdorf took to Sledgehammer's official blog to outline major alterations coming to Divisions. These were designed to be tailored toward the five main groups of weapon types with (mostly) exclusive attributes and attachments, but most players have taken issue with how Divisions pigeon-hole players into selecting ones for particular loadouts that have unnecessary pros and cons. For example, anyone who wants a bayonet for their rifle has to use the Infantry class, but no longer. All of the Divisions' exclusive attachments will now be available as standard attachments.

Every Division will be receiving a new attribute to replace lost attachments, and there are some surprising mix-ups and additions among the categories. The Resistance's "Additional Pistol Attachment & Swap Weapons" will now be in the Infantry Division; Mountain is receiving "Killed enemy death locations hidden" and Resistance will now have "Kills & assists grant Intel Ping of nearby enemies" and "Enemy movements are easier to hear," which help make up for its ironic side effect of alerting oblivious enemies to your presence.

Players will have unlimited sprint time, be able to attach three attachments as a standard (the Primed Basic Training perk is being removed as a result), and can equip one lethal and tactical equipment each with any Division. This isn't even mentioning two new Basic Training perks. Blitzkrieg will allow players who are nostalgic for killstreaks to earn them in lieu of scorestreaks, and Clandestine makes enemies drop "intel packs" that reveal nearby hostiles.

Our Take
Sledgehammer Games continues to leave me baffled at how attentive its team is being toward the player community. There are other changes like being able to add silencers to pistols now, which is a godsend since I can maintain a more quiet profile if things get messy up-close. It'd be nice to have silencers for nearly all weapons, but I'll take what I can get. I'm a bit skeptical about other alterations ... I'll just have to wait until tomorrow to see how they play out. At least the Resistance Division is more enticing now since there's a far better chance to get the upper hand.
