Some rumors regarding a remaster of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 have been floating around recently, and a recent report appears to bolster their authenticity and add some additional (if disappointing) details.

According to a source speaking to charlieINTEL, a Modern Warfare 2 remaster is indeed in the works (though not at Raven, the studio that handled the original Modern Warfare remaster). But the bigger news is that the new version allegedly has no multiplayer mode; it would just include the single-player campaign.

For the many fans of Modern Warfare's 2 online mode, that could be a major factor in whether or not this remaster (if it is ever officially confirmed) is worth picking up.

Our Take
If true, this news is a bit surprising. I could understand Activision's reluctance to put resources into supporting an outdated mode, but as we noted in our original review, the multiplayer was the primary distinguishing feature of this Call of Duty installment. I'd assume that mode (rather than the campaign) would be the main reason people remember it fondly.
