Fortnite Cross-Platform Play Is Coming To Xbox One, Too
Update: This story previously omitted an earlier announcement that the PS4 version of Fortnite would receive cross-platform support with PC, Mac, iOS, and Android. Game Informer regrets the error.
After announcing its absurdly popular battle royal game with another mode, Fortnite, was heading to mobile platforms, Epic has announced that players on Xbox One, PC, Mac, iOS, will able to play with each other, with Android users joining the fun "in the next few months."
The mobile version of the battle royal mode will be exactly the same as it is on console, and will receive in updates in tandem with other versions. The company did not announce exactly when cross-platform matches would kick off, but instead pointed players to sign up for the Invite Event on iOS.
Absent from the announcement is the PS4 version, which, as you may remember, was briefly able to play nice with the Xbox One version late last year due to an error on Epic's part. However, earlier this week Epic announced that the PS4 version will be able to play with other every other platform except for Xbox One.
Considering crossplay works across every platform permutation except for PS4 and Xbox One, signs once again point to Sony being responsible about the lack of crossplay at this point.

Our Take
It's no longer surprising when PS4 and Xbox One players can't play a game together when they technically should be able to, but always disappointing. At least PC players and Mobile players can party up with their friends no matter where they're playing (unless one friend is playing Xbox and the other on PS4).
