Discord Partnering With Esports Teams For Official Channels

by Imran Khan on Feb 22, 2018 at 11:05 AM

Discord has announced today that they are pairing with major esports teams like the San Francisco Shock and Team Liquid for official channels within the chat program.

The chat program popular with gamers has been making moves in the last year toward verified channels for games, developers, bands, and all sorts of official communities. This initiative is in line with that, allowing esports teams to talk directly with the community and allows fans to speak with their favorite teams.

According to Discord, "almost every team in the Overwatch league" is taking part, as are many popular teams in other games and genres. This is the full list Discord provided:

  • Team Liquid (LoL, CS:GO, Dota2)
  • Cloud 9 (LoL, CS:GO, Dota2)
  • Echo Fox (LoL, CS:GO)
  • Team EnVyUs (CS:GO)
  • KSV Esports (LoL)
  • 100 Thieves (LoL)
  • Golden Guardians (LoL)
  • London Spitfire (OW)
  • SF Shock (OW)
  • Seoul Dynasty (OW)
  • Philadelphia Fusion (OW)
  • New York Excelsior (OW)

If you've ever dreamed of giving feedback to your favorite team, this might be your best chance.

Our Take
The feature is launching with an impressive set of teams, but I'd be interested to see whether fighting game players will get their own channels to just kick it with fans.
