Dragon Ball FighterZ Producer Entering Into EVO Tournament

by Imran Khan on Feb 09, 2018 at 06:30 PM

Tomoko Hiroki, the producer for Dragon Ball FighterZ at Bandai Namco, is throwing her hat into the ring as an entrant into the game's biggest fighting game tournament debut at EVO 2018.

In a video uploaded to Bandai Namco's Youtube channel today, Hiroki thanked fans for supporting Dragon Ball FighterZ (to the tune of several million sold already) before announcing that she herself will be entering the tournament. Hiroki then did a Vegeta fist-bump and a Goku salute, signing off.

The announcement is causing a stir as generally developers of a fighting game haven't been allowed to compete, but the issue is a little more complicated with Hiroki being a producer who happens to be great at the game working at its publisher. On the other hand, she has had a lot more time to play the game than pretty much anyone else, but then it raises the question of whether fighting game players who get to play games early have unfair advantages.

We got to chat with Hiroki during our month of Dragon Ball FighterZ coverage in 2017 as she talked to us about the story of the game. You can check out the video below.

The organization behind EVO announced their 2018 picks earlier this week, with Dragon Ball FighterZ making a surprise appearance.

Our Take
Having seen videos of Hiroki playing, I feel like people should definitely be afraid to go up against her. It'll be interesting to see if she can take the whole thing or whether or not she feels a desire to hold back at all.
