Relic Shifting Away From Dawn Of War 3 Development

by Jon Bowman on Feb 08, 2018 at 02:22 PM

Ten months after releasing Dawn of War 3, Relic Entertainment has announced that they are leaving the game behind to focus on other projects.

In a statement issued to Eurogamer, Relic cited Dawn of War 3's underwhelming performance as reason the developer is moving on from the project. "While Dawn of War 3 has a dedicated player base, it didn't hit the targets we were expecting at launch, and it hasn't performed the way we had hoped since ..." Relic stated. " When a game underperforms, plans need to change. With Dawn of War 3, we simply don't have the foundation we need to produce major content."

Relic is currently working on a new Age of Empires game as well as an additional unannounced project.

Our Take
It's always sad to hear when a game that has a dedicated fan base such as this is left behind, but in a highly competitive genre like multiplayer online battle arenas, it's always a risk. Hopefully Relic's refocusing will lead to success in their future projects.
