Paladins Getting Battle Royale Mode

by Matthew Kato on Jan 04, 2018 at 10:45 AM

Free team-based shooter and Overwatch clone Paladins is getting a battle royale mode called Paladins: Battlegrounds.

Announced during today's Hi-Rex Expo, the mode features 100 players and their teams fighting over loot to be the last ones standing. The mode will take place on a map much larger (around 300 times larger) than the average Paladins map. The mode will also let players choose their character class and will allow the use of character abilities, as well as mounts.

The free mode is coming this year, preceded by a beta at some point.

Our Take
Can't say I'm surprised by another popular multiplayer game taking cues from PUBG. Most of these clones reworking the same systems used in a game's previous mode, creating a new enormous map, then playtesting. If you're a major multiplayer game developer/publisher and have the resources to do something like, why not, at this point?
