Japanese-Exclusive Tingle Game Gets Fan Translation

by Imran Khan on Jan 03, 2018 at 04:52 PM

Nintendo thinks Tingle is weird enough to make games of, but maybe too weird to localize said games. The second Tingle game never made it out in English, but fans have finally brought their favorite fairy-person to English-speakers with a fan translation of Tingle's Balloon Trip of Love.

Released in 2009, Tingle's Balloon Trip of Love was a sequel to Freshly-Picked Tingle's Rosy Rupeeland. Both games, as anyone with a familiarity with the character from his various Legend of Zelda incarnations might guess, focus on the small green human (??) and his lust for rupees.

While Freshly-Picked Tingle's Rosy Rupeeland came out in Japan and Europe on the DS (Nintendo of America declined to release the game in the United States), the sequel stayed exclusive to Japan. Fans in Europe were unhappy about this after getting the last game and launched a translation project in 2011 that has only just been completed.

The thrust of Balloon Trip of Love has Tingle exploring the innards of a romantic picture book alongside other companions. You can see footage of the English translation applied below thanks to Youtuber Lutheage.

Our Take
I have never played the sequel, but more than one person has described it to me as "genuinely chilling."
