Insurgency: Sandstorm Cancels Single-Player And Cooperative Campaigns
UPDATE: New Worlds commented to us that, while the single-player is currently no longer being worked on, the developer is leaving the option to return to it on the table down the road. The original story is as follows:
Developer New World Interactive has nixed their plans to add a story campaign, both single-player and cooperative, to Insurgency: Sandstorm as it gets ported to consoles.
The third game in the Insurgency series was to feature an ambitious single-player story mode. The campaign was to feature an Iraqi rebel fighter and her best friend on a personal mission in an Iraqi warzone, accompanied by an American soldier and a French rookie. The campaign was designed to be played either single-player or up to four player-cop.
Unfortunately, New World has decided to adjust their priorities and focus on the multiplayer aspects, cancelling the campaign.
"This is due to its high production requirements and our commitment to deliver to our fans in 2018," writes lead game designer Michael Tsarouhas in a blog post. "The story was a very exciting and new opportunity for us as a team, but we felt we had to make a choice. At this moment it’s more important to us that we deliver a full multiplayer and coop experience that improves on Insurgency; one that is true to our style and what we feel we do best."
You can check out the trailer for the campaign below. New World has indicated they might pick the campaign up again in the future, but it is not in the cards right now. The campaign was one of the reasons we listed Insurgency: Sandstorm as one of our most anticipated games of 2017. You can see the trailer for what the campaign was supposed to be from E3 2017 below.
Insurgency: Sandstorm is scheduled to release on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC in 2018.

It seems like such a shame to lose what looked like a cool and interesting shooter campaign, but if it wasn't coming together, then there's nothing to be done. Hopefully the multiplayer is good enough to warrant that sacrifice.
