Disney Cuts Ties With Gazillion, Shuts Down Marvel Heroes

by Keenan McCall on Nov 15, 2017 at 01:30 PM

Disney has cut its ties with the developer of Marvel Heroes, and is shutting down its Diablo-like MMO.

According to Kotaku, the news came via an email from a Disney representative. The email states the following:

“We regret to inform our Marvel Heroes fans that we have ended our relationship with Gazillion Entertainment, and that the Marvel Heroes games will be shut down. We would like to sincerely thank the players who joined the Marvel Heroes community, and will provide any further updates as they become available.”

Launched in 2013 for PC, Marvel Heroes was developed by Gazillion Entertainment as an MMO set in the Marvel universe. Players could assume the role of characters from the comic publisher's history. The game saw regular updates and added content from costumes to holiday events that ran throughout it four-year run, as well as the console port Marvel Heroes Omega for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, which released on June 30.

Our Take
It's definitely sad to hear the MMO will be shut down, though one has to wonder how long Disney has planned on cutting its partnership with Gazillion. We hope fans aren't too discouraged by the announcement, and hope that Marvel announces some new exciting projects soon.
