Warner Bros. Opens Label Intended Specifically For Harry Potter Games

by Imran Khan on Nov 08, 2017 at 06:40 PM

With today's announcement of Harry Potter: Wizards Unite, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment established Portkey, a label the publisher is using specifically for Harry Potter games.

The label is focused on telling stories that are tangential and supplemental to the main goings on within the books. The games are not intended to retell the story of Harry vs. Voldemort, but Portkey says the games will feature familiar characters at different points in their lives.

It is important to note that this is not Warner Bros. developing their own Harry Potter games, but using a separate label as an initiative to fund outside games, much like today's announcement of Niantic developing Wizard Unite. Portkey also mentioned that the initiative covers both mobile and console games, so it is likely more initiatives will be coming in time.

Our Take
WB looks like it is getting behind Harry Potter games in a big way, so hopefully the quality matches up to the enthusiasm for the initiative.
