Ghost Story, Formerly Irrational Games, Is Working On An Immersive Sim

by Imran Khan on Nov 06, 2017 at 02:16 PM

Ghost Story Games used to be known as Irrational Games, creators of games like System Shock 2 and Bioshock Infinite, and are hiring for artists to work on an immersive sim.

The studio emerged in 2014 when Ken Levine and 2K Games restructured Irrational. Levine suggested that working on AAA games like Bioshock Infinite was too stressful, leading to a massive downsizing in Irrational staff to take on smaller projects designed for core audiences. There has not been an announced game from the studio since the restructuring and no real hints until this job listing.

Immersive sims themselves like generally open-means first-person games that let players tackle situations with multiple options. While there's several examples like Thief and Deus Ex, one of the more relevant examples is 2007's Bioshock as a reimagining of the concept.

When we talked to Levine in 2015, he talked about his new project being a sci-fi game, so this might finally be that project getting off the ground.
