Evo 2018 Gets Dates And A New Trailer

by Cody Mello-Klein on Oct 26, 2017 at 12:33 PM

The Evolution Championship Series, popularly known as Evo, just got a definitive date and location for its 2018 tournament in a new announcement trailer via Shoryuken. The best and brightest of the fighting game competitive circuit will face off on August 3-5 of next year at Las Vegas' Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino. Of course, all the action will also stream live on Twitch, so just in case you can't afford the ticket price, Evo's got you covered.

The announcement trailer shows off some "get hyped" moments from Evo 2017, as well as footage from games that have been featured in tournaments past – including a short clip from the upcoming Dragon Ball FighterZ, which was showcased in a side tournament at Evo 2017. The official official list of featured games hasn't been released yet, but based on Bandai Namco's hard push at Evo this year, expect to see FighterZ in some form at Evo 2018.

Just in case you can't wait until August to watch fists fly and audiences cry, you can also check out Japan's first Evo tournament early next year. Evo Japan throws down in Tokyo from January 26-28.

Our Take:
2017 has been a great year for fighting game releases, and Evo 2017 – even with its coaching and yellow-card controversies – was an adrenaline-fueled celebration of all those great games. However, with Dragon Ball FighterZ kicking off 2018 like a super saiyan punch to the face, next year's tournament could prove just as exciting.
