THQ Nordic Kind Of Vaguely Announces DeBlob On PS4 And Xbox One

by Imran Khan on Oct 25, 2017 at 06:21 PM

Somewhat bafflingly, THQ Nordic has announced a modern console port of 2008's puzzle platformer deBlob releasing on November 14.

The announcement, which came in a three-pronged approach of a trailer, a tweet, and a press release with no one piece actually containing all the information, had been long-rumored as THQ Nordic has made it a habit to re-release games from the now-defunct publisher whose namesake they purchased.

The trailer is a somewhat messily edited combination of quotes and feature text, set against bouncy music and what appears to be cuts of someone just playing the game normally. It also runs at about half the framerate of the original game, though it is possible that may be due to odd video production issues.

The game was originally released on the Wii to surprising success for THQ, who quickly greenlit a sequel for every system under the sun. The sequel did poorly and contributed to THQ's financial woes. According to the press release, this updated port is only releasing on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, not Switch or PC.

Check out the trailer below.

Our Take
This really feels like they're reaching for something to do with those old THQ licenses. While deBlob was a fun enough game, I am not sure who they think the market for this is, especially with that very sudden release date.
