The Fake Shin Megami Tensei Metroidvania Is Real And Available Now

by Cody Mello-Klein on Oct 16, 2017 at 12:12 PM

After releasing a "fake" trailer for a Metroidvania-style Shin Megami Tensei game last week, Atlus served up a double fakeout by making that game a reality. Shine Megami Tensei Synchronicity Prologue is a free downloadable game that puts Jack Frost and Pyro Jack in the middle of a sidescrolling adventure.

The game was originally revealed alongside the trailer for Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey Redux, a 3DS remake of Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey. The new sidescroller, which is only available on Windows in Japanese, pulls heavily from that game's sci fi setting. The Jack Bros. use complimentary elements – fire and ice – to take on enemies and explore every nook and cranny of an ever-expanding map.

The game is available for free through December 24 on Atlus' website

Our Take:
When we reported on this last week, we had a sneaking suspicion that this game was in development. Luckily for fans this little adventure turned out to be farther along than we thought. For fans of the series (who can read Japanese) this is sure to be a nice way to prepare for Strange Journey Redux.
