Enchanting Platformer Cuphead Sells One Million Copies In Two Weeks

by Imran Khan on Oct 13, 2017 at 02:23 PM

StudioMDHR's Cuphead, the tough-as-nails 2D platformer that invokes the silent cartoon era of the pre-WWII western animation, has passed a milestone of one million copies sold in just two weeks.

The game, which was released on Xbox One and PC on September 29, initially showed up as part of a sizzle reel of indie titles in Microsoft's 2014 E3 press conference. Since then, it has made regular appearances at various trade shows, with its shockingly beautiful art and animation making the wait seem like an eternity.

As far as indie titles go, one million in two weeks is an unqualified success and indicates that the game resonated strongly with players. You can find our review of the game here and an opinion piece by Elise detailing the virtues of Cuphead's difficulty.

Our Take
I still can't beat the dragon boss and that is stressing me out, but Cuphead's success is well-deserved.
