Atlus Releases Fake Metroidvania Trailer To Promote Strange Journey Redux

by Cody Mello-Klein on Oct 13, 2017 at 06:10 PM

Sometimes the truth is just as strange as fiction. Today Atlus released a trailer for a fake Metroidvania-esque Shin Megami Tensei game alongside its very real trailer for the Japanese version of Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey Redux.

The fake trailer is sure to get fan's attention, mostly because the game looks surprisingly detailed. An inventory system, cool looking combat, and platforming maneuvers are all on display, which all looks promising. However, a music cue and one giant red stamp later, it's clear the trailer is fake. Then comes the main course: a trailer for the Japanese release of Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey Redux on Nintendo 3DS. The trailer, while light on gameplay, shows off some impressive looking action scenes and cinematics, before revealing an October 26 release date.

You can out what we thought about the DS version of SMT: Strange Journey here and let us know what trailer you were more excited for in the comments below.

Our Take:
It's a strange marketing move that might work a little too well: the fake game looks like something worth releasing. Based on how much detail was packed into the fake trailer, I wouldn't be surprised if it was in development at some point, but I hope fans can find solace in the Shin Megami Tensei they are getting.
