Discord Offering Verified Servers For Games Like Minecraft And Battlegrounds

by Imran Khan on Oct 12, 2017 at 05:04 PM

Discord is quickly becoming the default choice for not only voice chat, but also general community hang-outs and messaging among gamers. The app is taking another step forward on this path today by launching official servers for games like PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds, Minecraft, Supercell, and Offworld.

The official servers are run, managed, and moderated by the developers themselves. This lets them communicate with players, self-police abusive and toxic behavior, and try to shape the community in better ways. It shortens the fences between players and the developers and publishers to make discussions out of communication rather than the lecturing nature of blog posts.

In the past, Discord has flirted with controversy by intervening on unverified servers that became hotbeds of extreme views that Discord says violated the terms of service. The self-moderation taken on by verified servers saves them the trouble of dealing with situations like that themselves, and helps to prevent a laissez-faire moderation style eventually allowing the app to earn a reputation as a den of toxicity.

Developers or publishers interested in signing up for a verified channel can do so on Discord's official website.
