Update: As promised back in June, Pokémon Gold and Silver are out today for the 3DS Virtual Console for $9.99 each. As an added bonus, those who buy one of the Virtual Console games will receive a download code to add Celebi to their copies of Pokémon Sun or Moon or save it for Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon.

Original story posted June 6, 2017:

Alongside the announcement of Pokkén Tournament for Switch and Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon for 3DS today, Nintendo also announced that Pokémon Gold and Silver are coming to the 3DS Virtual Console.

The games will function similarly to the Virtual Console releases of Red, Blue, and Yellow and will be compatible with Pokémon Bank to bring your captured Pokémon forward through the generations.

The games will be available the same day as Pokkén Tournament, September 22.

Our Take
This is considered by many to be the apex of the series, thanks mostly to its impressive post-game content, it's great that this is coming to 3DS. You know where else it would be great? The Nintendo Switch.
