Sony Reduces Price Of PlayStation VR Bundles, Starting September 1

by Andrew Reiner on Aug 28, 2017 at 09:46 AM

Hot on the heels of HTC Vive's huge $200 price drop, and Oculus Rift's temporary reduction, Sony is cutting the price of its PlayStation VR bundles. On September 1, the PlayStation VR Worlds bundle, which originally retailed for $499.99, will now sell for $449.99. This bundle comes packaged with the PlayStation VR headset, camera, two Move controllers, and PlayStation VR Worlds. The reduced price basically gives you the camera for no extra cost.

On the same day, Sony is introducing a new bundle that includes the PlayStation VR headset and camera for $399. This is the same price that the PlayStation VR headset retails for now, which again means you are getting the camera for free.

Our Take
2017 has been relatively quiet for PlayStation VR. While many hoped E3 would bring big, triple A projects to the system, the lineup was somewhat sparse, with the most notable games being The Inpatient from Supermassive Games, and Bethesda bringing Doom and Skyrim to the hardware. The price drop was needed, but still likely isn't enough to energize gamer interest.
