Reader Discussion: What Is The Best Handheld Version Of A Console Franchise?

by Kyle Hilliard on Jul 26, 2017 at 07:39 PM

We published our review of Hey! Pikmin today and we didn't love the franchise's transition to handheld, but sometimes that process goes really well. What is the best it has ever gone?

Jak and Daxter and Ratchet and Clank got PSP games, Okami moved to DS for its sequel, and Mario, Metroid, and Zelda have all experimented with handheld versions. Even games renowned for their huge cinematic presentation like Metal Gear Solid, Grand Theft Auto, Uncharted, and God of War have all made appearances on handhelds. But which one is the best?

It's a tough call with all the quality handheld Zelda games, Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, and many, many others, but I think one of my favorites has to be the God of War PSP sequel, Ghost of Sparta. I just remember having a great time with it and not feeling as though God of War's scope was downgraded for the smaller platform.

What about you? What's your favorite handheld game that started as a console series?
