Rainbow Six Siege Update Live Today, New Loot System Incoming

by Jeff Cork on Jul 11, 2017 at 09:58 AM

Ubisoft is releasing Rainbow Six Siege's 2.1.1 update today, which addresses several balance and gameplay issues as well as lays the groundwork for an upcoming loot-box system.

The loot boxes – which are officially called Alpha Packs – will contain randomized cosmetics and special legendary-tier items. They'll include new items as well as surfacing older content, such as the previously released Black Ice skins. Every player will get a free pack to start when they arrive, though when that happens is still in the air. Ubisoft says it doesn't want the rollout to affect performance, and that it will be rolling out the Alpha Packs in a staggered release across each platform. More deals on the system are coming next week, so don't expect to see them live until then.

As far as tweaks that will affect your games in the immediate future, Hibana's X-KAIROS gadget has been tuned to address an issue where some of the pellets didn't explode if it was used in quick succession. New cover has been added to the Kanal map, too, to prevent defense players from spawn camping the attackers. A window in the control room has been opened, to give defenders more attack options as well. Finally, some of the walls in the Coastline map have been rebuilt to ensure that they can be properly destroyed during matches.
